Compare · Chaser
Chaser sells you the machine. We sell you somebody to run it.
Chaser and Hound both publish a headline of £199 a month, and the number means two entirely different things. That is the whole page, and everything below is just the detail.
Chaser has been doing this far longer than we have, has a considerably larger feature set, serves revenue bands we do not touch, and has years of customers who will vouch for it. We have none of that yet, and pretending otherwise on our own comparison page would be a poor start.
The short answer
At £199 Chaser gives you the software and your team operates it. At £199 we operate it. Chaser's own done-for-you service is a £324 add-on on top of a software tier, which is £523 combined with Compact.
Side by side
What each £199 actually buys.
| Dimension | Chaser | Hound |
|---|---|---|
| The £199 tier | Compact: software your team operates, four users, thirty templates, four workflows, for turnover under £4m. | The whole overdue book chased for you, in your name, from day three to the county court. |
| Who does the chasing | Your team, using their sequences. It is a very good tool and it is still a tool. | Us, from your own accounts address, on a ladder you approved once. |
| Done-for-you | Chaser Care, published at £324 a month as an add-on alongside a software tier. With Compact that is £523 a month combined. | There is no add-on. Done for you is the only thing we sell, at £199 a month. |
| Higher tiers | Core at £599 and Complete at £899, banded by revenue up to £100m, with multi-entity and an account manager. | None. One plan, one price, and a business too small to need revenue banding. |
| Statutory interest | Late payment fees are a feature you configure. We could not find a published statement that statutory interest under the 1998 Act is applied automatically without setup. | Calculated per invoice under the 1998 Act and added from the start. It belongs to you, not to us. |
| Escalation | Chaser Collections is a separate no-win-no-fee collections service. The percentage is not published, and we found no published letter-before-action or court route. | A documented pack to a regulated firm, at cost, with no margin taken, on your instruction and only after you approve it. |
| Who it is built for | Finance teams. The tiers are banded by company revenue, which tells you who they are for. | Trades with a van, a ledger and nobody whose job it is to chase. |
| Success fee | None on the software. Chaser Collections is quote-based and not published. | 8% of a recovery more than 45 days overdue, never more than £1,000 on one invoice. |
No ticks and crosses, because these are two different jobs rather than the same job done well and badly. Figures checked 6 August 2026.
01
The £523 figure, and why we will not round it off.
Chaser does not publish a price called £523. What they publish is Compact at £199 a month and a Chaser Care service add-on at £324 a month, described as something you run alongside a software tier rather than instead of one. Add those and you get £523.
We are spelling that out because our own homepage previously said their done-for-you tier was £523, as though that were a price they advertise. It is not. It is a sum we did, and presenting arithmetic as somebody else's published price is exactly the kind of comparator that makes a comparison misleading. It has been corrected.
The comparison that survives is still the one worth making: their service costs £324 on top of software, ours costs £199 a month on its own.
02
What we could not find out about Chaser.
On a page like this it is tempting to treat an absence of evidence as evidence of absence. We are not going to, so here is the honest list of what we could not confirm from their published pages on 6 August 2026.
Whether their prices are quoted inclusive or exclusive of VAT, which matters because a price comparison that mixes the two is not like for like. Whether statutory interest under the 1998 Act is added automatically or requires configuration. What percentage Chaser Collections charges. Whether they chase consumer debts as well as business ones. Their published free trial length is stated inconsistently across their own signup pages, at ten days on some and fourteen on others.
None of those are criticisms. They are gaps in what is published, and if somebody from Chaser wants to fill them in we will correct this page rather than argue about it.
03
Where the comparison stops being about price.
If you have a finance team, Chaser is very probably the better purchase and the tiering makes that obvious: revenue bands up to £100m, multi-entity, unlimited users. That is a product built for a company with somebody whose job title contains the word credit.
We are built for the case where nobody's job title contains any of those words, the chasing has been on the same to-do list since March, and the reason it has not happened is not that the software was missing.
Where we are the wrong answer
When Chaser is the better buy.
This is not a close call in either direction. There is a size and a shape of business where they are obviously right and we are obviously not.
- You have a finance team or a credit controller already. Chaser makes them faster. We would be paying for a job somebody is already doing.
- Your turnover is above about £4m, where their tiering is designed to go and our single plan starts to look thin.
- You need multi-entity, multi-currency, or debtors outside England and Wales. We cover England and Wales and the statutory machinery we lean on stops at that border.
- You want a mature vendor with years of references and awards behind them. That is a completely reasonable thing to want and we cannot offer it yet.
- You want to own the process in-house and just remove the typing. That is what their software is for, and it is good at it.
We would rather you read that and go elsewhere than sign up and work it out in a month. If one of those lines is you, the honest answer is that we are not the thing to buy.
Straight answers
What people ask when comparing the two.
Is Hound cheaper than Chaser?
The headline software price is the same, at £199 a month each. The difference is what happens for it: Chaser's £199 is software your team operates, and ours is the chasing done for you. Their comparable done-for-you offering is the Chaser Care add-on at £324 a month on top of a software tier. On top of our £199 a month we charge 8% of a recovery that was more than 45 days overdue, capped at £1,000 an invoice, and they do not charge that on the software.
Does Chaser do the chasing for you?
The core product is software you operate. They also publish Chaser Care, a service add-on at £324 a month described as running alongside a software tier, which includes a dedicated specialist doing follow-ups and inbox management. So yes, they offer it, as an add-on rather than as the product.
Can Chaser take a debt to court?
We could not find a published statement that they issue letters before action or court claims. They publish a separate no-win-no-fee service called Chaser Collections whose listed contact methods are letters, SMS, phone and email. If that has changed, tell us and we will correct this page.
Why are you comparing yourself to a bigger company?
Because they are the ones a tradesman finds first, and because the comparison is genuinely favourable to us in one narrow way and genuinely unfavourable in several others. A page that only listed the first kind would not be worth your time.
Where did these figures come from?
Chaser's own published pricing page, read on 6 August 2026 and linked from the table above. Prices are theirs to change without telling us, so if you find one out of date we would rather hear about it than have it sit here misrepresenting them.
